Zeitz MOCAA opened in September 2017 at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town by converting a 1920s grain silo complex: Heatherwick Studio carved an atrium out of the silo tubes, and the cut edges of the concrete cylinders became arches and vaults, with a glass lift running inside one tube. The remit is contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, with exhibitions and collecting across the continent and among diaspora artists, plus a standing programme in African photography and film.
