The Chinati Foundation sits in Marfa, west Texas, founded in 1986 by Donald Judd in Second World War army barracks and warehouses. Its method inverts the usual museum: works do not travel but stay permanently placed according to the light, scale and orientation of each building, and visitors walk a guided route through one installation at a time. The foundation holds a large body of Judd's own work plus site-specific pieces by Carl Andre, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, Roni Horn, Ilya Kabakov, Richard Long, Claes Oldenburg and others.
