The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam opened in 1895 and covers modern and contemporary art alongside a substantial design and applied arts collection: De Stijl, the Bauhaus, Rietveld furniture, posters and graphic design sit next to painting from Matisse and Chagall through Malevich and Mondrian to CoBrA and conceptual art. The 2012 wing by Benthem Crouwel, nicknamed the bathtub, moved the entrance to the Museumplein side.
