Frere-Jones Type works out of Brooklyn, founded in 2015 by Tobias Frere-Jones after roughly two decades drawing type at Hoefler & Frere-Jones. The catalogue is small but each family is worked over for years: Mallory was his first sans under his own name, Retina was drawn for small newspaper text with counters and spacing tuned to stay legible when shrunk.
